The elongate sand dwellers includes representatives of a phylogenetically diverse group of reef fish families comprised of generally small-to-medium-sized, torpedo-shaped species that live in close association with sand. Note that while some goby species (family Gobiidae) also live in association with sand, all gobies are included in the small, elongate bottom dwellers group because most are found in association with hardbottom habitat.
